Texture evokes a sensual response, providing an enticing surface that tempts us to experience it with our eyes and our touch. Rough, smooth, glossy, burnished or silky; the textures in your home speak without words, showcasing your personal tastes and pleasures. How materials feel affects the way we feel about it, nature offers us clues on using texture as a decorating tool - like the course, grainy texture of a sandy
beach or the broken twigs on a woodland floor. Natural raw materials like twine, hessian, willow, wool all posess so many naturally beautiful qualities of softness, warmth and comfort that affect all of us in many different ways.

The Twine Chair focuses on my own personal developments and experimentations with a combination of natural and man-made materials using traditional craft and weaving techniques. Through looking at natural structures such as weaving i became inspired to design my own chair that encompasses some of the natural qualites of wieving and natural nest like structures.
The design of the chair comprises of a two piece steel frame with the main seating support being a combination of natural twine and powder coated steel. The combination of these two materials has allowed me to create a structure that is very strong, lightweight, flexible and comfortable. The natural twine has many different qualities of intimacy, warmth and support which has softened the steel to make it a lot more enticing and tempts us to touch the structure. The flexible qualities of the frame and seat material allows the chair to naturally form around the user and provide a sufficient level of comfort. Most importantly the chair demonstrates the use of texture in hope of producing effects of intimacy and natural support that often cannot be achieved through using man-made materials.
